국가유산청 한국전통문화대학교(총장 강경환)는 5월 15일 오후 1시 30분부터 덕수궁 선원전 영역 내 구(舊) 조선저축은행 중역사택에 위치한 K-Heritage국제센터(서울 중구)에서 주한 대사들을 초청해 「2025 K-헤리티지 데이(K-Heritage Day)」를 개최한다.
「K-헤리티지 데이」는 주한 외국인을 대상으로 우리 국가유산의 아름다움과 가치를 소개하기 위해 마련된 특별 강연 행사로, 지난해 ‘한국 전통건축의 미학’을 주제로 문화유산에 대한 이야기를 나눈 데 이어, 올해는 ‘금박(geumbak): 한국 복식문화의 찬란함과 격조’를 주제로 무형유산에 관한 강연을 진행한다.
8개국(라오스, 태국, 오만, 일본, 잠비아, 케냐, 콜롬비아, 호주)의 대사 및 그 배우자, 공관 참사관 등 주요 외교 인사를 초청하여 진행되는 올해 「K-헤리티지 데이」에서는 국내외에서 한복과 한국 전통 복식의 우아함을 널리 알리고 있는 한국전통문화대학교 전통미술공예학과 심연옥 교수(고대 직물연구소 소장)의 한복에 대한 이론 강연과 더불어 참가자들이 직접 보자기에 금박을 입혀 기념품을 만들어보는 짧은 체험 프로그램도 함께 선보일 예정이다.
한국전통문화대학교는 2023년부터 매년 외국인들을 대상으로 를 진행해 오고 있으며, 첫 번째 행사인 이번 「K-헤리티지 데이」를 시작으로, 여름에는 외국인 학생을 위한 3주간의 계절학기 「K-헤리티지 서머 스쿨(K-Heritage Summer School)」(6.24.~7.15.), 하반기에는 글로벌 문화 리더를 위한 「K-헤리티지 리더십 프로그램(K-Heritage Leadership Program)」(일정 추후 확정)을 이어서 개최할 예정이다.
한편, 이번 행사는 2019년 개소 이래로 전 세계 유수 대학 및 문화유산 관련 기관들과의 협력해온 K-Heritage국제센터가 기존 명동 유네스코회관에서 덕수궁 권역 내 구(舊) 조선저축은행 중역사택으로 이전한 후 처음 열리는 공식 행사로 그 의미를 더한다. 지난 5월 12일 새로운 공간에서 개소식을 통해 새 출발을 알린 K-Heritage국제센터는 앞으로도 우리 국가유산의 세계화와 국제적 위상 제고를 위한 교육·연구의 거점 역할을 수행해나갈 예정이다.

Korea National University of Heritage (President: Kang Kyung-hwan), under the Korea Heritage Service, will host the “2025 K-Heritage Day” on May 15 at 1:30 p.m. The event, which will welcome ambassadors to Korea, will be held at the newly opened K-Heritage International Center (Jung-gu, Seoul), located in the former executive residence of the Chosun Savings Bank within the Seonwonjeon area of Deoksugung Palace.
“K-Heritage Day” is a special lecture series designed to introduce the beauty and value of Korea’s national heritage to the international community in Korea. Following last year’s discussion on the “Aesthetics of Korean Traditional Architecture,” this year’s program will spotlight intangible heritage with the theme, “Gold Leaf (geumbak): Splendid and dignified clothing culture in Korea.”
Ambassadors, their spouses, and other key diplomatic officials from 8 countries—Australia, Colombia, Japan, Kenya, Laos, Oman, Thailand, and Zambia—will participate in this year’s event. Professor Sim Yeon-ok of Korea National University of Heritage, who has been actively promoting the elegance of hanbok and Korean traditional attire both in Korea and abroad, will deliver a theoretical lecture on hanbok. Attendees will then take part in a short hands-on session, applying gold leaf to a traditional wrapping cloth (bojagi) to create a commemorative souvenir.
Since 2023, Korea National University of Heritage has hosted the annual “K-Heritage Academy” for international audiences. Following this first session, “K-Heritage Day,” the university will offer a three-week seasonal program for international students, “K-Heritage Summer School” (June 24–July 15), followed by the “K-Heritage Leadership Program” for global cultural leaders in the second half of the year.
This year’s “K-Heritage Day” also marks the first official event at the K-Heritage International Center since its relocation from the UNESCO Hall in Myeong-dong to the former executive residence of the Chosun Savings Bank in the Deoksugung Palace area. On May 12, the Center held its official opening ceremony in the new space, signifying a new beginning. Going forward, the K-Heritage International Center will continue serving as a hub for education and research, fostering the global promotion of Korea’s heritage and enhancing its international stature.
Korea National University of Heritage will spare no effort to ensure the continued success of the “K-Heritage Academy” this year, enabling people worldwide to appreciate the outstanding value of Korea’s heritage.
