국가유산청(청장 허민)은 유네스코 아태무형유산센터와 오는 9월 17일부터 18일까지 서울 진관사 한문화체험관(서울 은평구)에서 「2025년 세계무형문화유산포럼」을 개최한다.
올해로 9회째를 맞이하는 「세계무형문화유산포럼」은 각국의 무형유산 현황을 공유하고 보전과 전승 방안을 모색하는 장으로, 아시아·태평양 지역을 대표하는 국제 학술행사이다. 이번 행사에는 유네스코 및 세계은행(World Bank)을 비롯해 전 세계 11개국의 무형유산 전문가와 아태지역 회원국 관계자 20여 명이 참석할 예정이다.
* 세계은행(World Bank): 전 세계 빈곤퇴치 및 개발도상국의 경제 발전을 목표로 워싱턴 DC에 본사를 둔 은행으로, 문화유산과 문화다양성 증진을 위해 유네스코와 협력하고 있음.
올해는 ‘무형유산과 경제 활동’을 주제로, 오늘날 지역 경제와 창의 산업, 관광 등 다양한 분야에서 활용되고 있는 무형유산의 경제적 잠재력과 사회적 의미를 고찰하고, 무형유산의 상업화를 모색하는 공동체가 그 가치를 온전히 보존하면서도 지속가능한 방법으로 경제적 가치를 창출할 수 있는 길을 함께 논의해보고자 한다.
첫날(17일)에는 허민 국가유산청장의 개회사를 시작으로, ▲ 아흐메드 이웨이다 세계은행 국제조정관이 <문화·창의 산업의 지역 경제 통합>을 주제로 기조발표를 진행한다. ▲ 1분과 <무형유산의 경제적 가치 탐구>에서는 동티모르, 중국, 한국의 가치 창출 사례에 대하여 조셉 로 유네스코 국제컨설턴트 등이 발표를 할 예정이며, ▲ 2분과에서는 <무형유산 공동체 기반 경제 활동과 지속가능한 발전>을 주제로, 모에 치바 유네스코 자카르타사무소 문화담당관 등의 발표가 진행된다.
두 번째 날인 18일 오전에 진행되는 ▲ 3분과에서는 <무형유산의 윤리적 경제화>라는 주제로, 아난야 바타차라야 인도 방글라나탁 닷컴 이사/공동창립자 등이 발표한다. 이어서 오후에는 ▲ 특별 분과가 진행되며, <무형유산과 경제 활동: 한국의 실천 사례>에 대하여 송원섭 제주대학교 부교수 등이 국내의 무형유산 활용과 연구 성과에 대하여 발표할 예정이다.

The 2025 World Forum for Intangible Cultural Heritage to be held in Jinkwansa, Seoul, 17-18 September hosted by the Korea Heritage Service (Administrator: Huh Min) and organised by the InternationalInformationandNetworkingCenterforIntangibleCulturalHeritageintheAsia-PacificregionundertheauspicesofUNESCO (ICHCAP). The Forum will take place at the Jinkwansa in Seoul.
Now in its ninth edition, the Forum serves as a leading international academic platform in the Asia-Pacific region, sharing the current status of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) worldwide and exploring strategies for its safeguarding and transmission. This year’s Forum will welcome more than 19 ICH experts and representatives from 10countries, including participants from UNESCO and the World Bank.
The theme of the 2025 Forum is “Intangible Cultural Heritage and Economic Activities.” The discussions will examine the economic potential and social significance of ICH as it is increasingly integrated into diverse fields such as local economies, creative industries, and tourism. The Forum also aims to explore how communities can generate economic value from ICH in a sustainable way while ensuring its full preservation.
The two-day program will open with welcoming remarks by Dr. Huh Min, Administrator of the Korea Heritage Service, Government of the Republic of Korea, followed by a keynote speech from Dr. Ahmed Eiweida, Global Coordinator for Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Tourism at the World Bank, on “Integration of Cultural and Creative Industries into Local Economies”
Session 1: Exploring the Economic Value of Intangible Cultural Heritage will feature case studies from Timor-Leste, Hongkong, and Korea, presented by Joseph Lo (UNESCO International Consultant)with Kay Limak (Honorary Cultural Ambassador of Timor-Leste World Music),Anna Yau (Assistant Professor, Hong Kong Chu Hai College), and Hyunjeong Lee (Research Professor, Korea National University of Transportation).
Session 2: Community-Based Economic Activities and Sustainable Development will include presentations by Moe Chiba (Chief of Culture Unit, UNESCO Jakarta Office), Pauline Fan (Creative Director, Cultural Heritage Center, Malaysia), and Susan Keitumetse (Research Scholar, University of Botswana).
On 18 September, Session 3: Ethical commercialisation of Intangible Cultural Heritage will feature presentations by Ananya Bhattacharya (Direc0tor, Banglanatak dot com, India), Eric Zerrudo (Executive Director, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Philippines), and Tomo Ishimura (Director of Intangible Heritage Division, Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Japan).
In the afternoon, a Special Session, Local Perspectives: Economic Practices of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Korea will highlight domestic cases, with presentations by Wonseob Song (Associate Professor, Jeju National University), Donghwan Yun (Professor, Gyeongsang National University), and Chaelin Park (Principal Researcher, World Institute of Kimchi).
This year’s Forum is expected to provide a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the impact of ICH-based economic activities on local communities and cultures and to explore pathways for future development.
